Itinerary – 2 Nights / 3 Days
Leave Dhaka after breakfast for a scenic drive through picturesque rural landscape to Dinajpur (7 hours). Lunch at a highway restaurant. Upon arrival at Dinajpur check-in to hotel and freshen up. Visit the Hindu Dinajpur Rajbari (18th century), one of the most striking historic buildings in North Bengal, and Ramsagar, the largest man-made pond of the country. If the time situation permits have a short visit of Dinajpur city. Overnight in Dinajpur.
The Kantajees Temple (also known as Kantanagar Temple), the most spectacular Hindu temple and one of the most beautiful monuments in Bangladesh, is only a 25 km drive from Dinajpur. After visiting this temple with infinite panels of intricately sculptured terra cotta plaques, drive to Paharpur. Dating from the 8th century AD, the Somapui Vihara in Paharpur is considered the most impressive and important archaeological site in Bangladesh and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was once the largest Buddhist monastery south of the Himalayas. Lunch at a local restaurant in Joypurhat. After lunch continue drive towards Bogra to visit the oldest known city in Bangladesh. Mahasthangarh, dating back to at least the 3rd century BC, is located only 14 km from Bogra town. Today the archaeological site consists mainly of foundations and hillocks hinting at the past glory. In the Mahasthangarh Site Museum an interesting collection of recovered pieces is on display. Continue drive to Bogra, check-in to hotel. If time permits, a visit to Bogra town and the Nawab Syed Abdus Sobhan Chowdhury Palace Museum, one of the only furnished Rajbaris in Bangladesh, is suggested. And before leaving Bogra, you must taste the famous Bogura-r-Mistee Dhoi (sweet curd)! Overnight in Bogra.
After breakfast leave Bogra for Natore, has two of the most outstanding Rajbaris in the country: Natore Rajbari, one of the oldest Rajbaris in Bangladesh and Uttara Gano Bhavan, a well maintained complex surrounded by a moat and high boundary walls. After visiting Natore continue drive to Puthia. The charming town of Puthia, renowned for the largest number of historically important Hindu structures in Bangladesh, is the first stop on today’s journey from Bogra to Rajshahi. The Shiva Temple in Puthia is the largest Hindu temple in Bangladesh. The Govinda Temple, decorated with intricate terracotta designs, is in one of the country’s finest old Rajbaris’ courtyard. Lunch will be offered at a local restaurant. Drive to Dhaka, Arrive Dhaka in the evening.
